It’s not hard to convince a donor relations professional that we are important, but it can sometimes be a struggle to be heard amongst the noise of fundraising. Growing from a 2 person silo to an eight, strong and growing, integrated team, we are excited to share our learnings from the path to integration. From case development to personal events, we will share the seemingly small things that donor relations input can bring that lead to transformed results, and how to get others in the organization to buy in.

Jennifer Lau

Jennifer Lau is the Donor Relations Officer at BC Children’s Hospital Foundation and has served on the Donor Relations team since 2007. She currently oversees the Foundation’s annual giving recognition and stewardship program which raises $18 million annually and her primary responsibilities include developing custom recognition plans for donors, digital stewardship and recognition, and celebration strategies for milestone giving. Jen also worked on the Foundation’s recently-completed capital campaign, helping establish the recognition platform for the new hospital building, developing gift agreement and recognition tracking processes, and writing personalized stewardship reports. Jen has also worked in the areas of gift and estate planning, special events, and donations processing.


Danielle Semple

Danielle Semple is the Strategic Partnerships Officer at BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Danielle has been with BC Children’s Hospital Foundation since 2005, with eight years dedicated to the donor relations department before moving into her current role. Now working with the Chief Strategy Officer, Danielle works to ensure that the relationships with the Foundation’s key stakeholders have the structure in place to achieve impeccable donor accountability and stewardship. From identifying compelling funding opportunities, ensuring the money is spent on the intended project, to working with the architect of their new hospital on recognition plans, Danielle works on the processes that exist in the background that support achieving delighted and engage donors. Danielle has over 12 years’ experience in different facets nonprofit organizations including program delivery, volunteer management, fundraising, and donor relations.
