As globalization becomes more and more local, charitable organizations are starting to think about "going global" with their philanthropy efforts. 

Many are envisioning doing social good on an international scale, while others are learning how to reach out successfully across the world to communicate with, inspire, and then steward new donors. ‎‎

Pam King Sams, President & CEO of Pam King Sams & Associates (and former EVP for Development at Children's National Health System on the Sheikh Zayed Campus) shares insights on her experience with global philanthropy and why it is important for donor relations and stewardship professionals to understand the nuances of this expanded group.

Pam King Sams, BA, CFRE, MIPP, has dedicated 25 years to leading and advising successful development enterprises on behalf of internationally recognized academic universities, pediatric medical centers, community hospitals, international agencies, sovereign wealth funds, and businesses to help improve the health and well-being of children and adults. She has personally raised more than $1.2 billion for organizations, in addition to helping others with their national and international fundraising objectives. Pam has served as an advisor to organizations seeking international philanthropic support, philanthropists seeking accountable charitable causes, investment funders, business leaders and governmental agencies.

In her 12-year role as Executive Vice President at Children's National Health System on the Sheikh Zayed Campus in Washington, DC, Pam devoted seven years to building international partnerships to improve the health of children worldwide, and had a special focus on health in the Gulf Region after receiving a $150 million gift from the Government of Abu Dhabi. Pam partnered with a number of United Arab Emirates’ government agencies, such as the Crown Prince Court, the Prime Minister’s Office, the UAE Embassy to the US, the UAE Ministry of Health, the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi, Dubai Health Authority, along with public and private healthcare entities, the business sector, universities, and charitable foundations to coordinate more than 25 projects related to innovations in medicine, economic diversification, human capacity building, business development, education and international relations.

Pam has served in advisory roles for University of Cambridge, Mount Sinai Health System, many US Children’s Hospitals in the Woodmark Group (an organization comprised of 26 children’s hospitals in North America), Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Khalifa University, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and healthcare systems in New York and California.
