This facilitated discussion will explore career development for those interested in taking their careers beyond donor relations. What skills do you bring to the table as a skilled DR professional? How do you develop and hone them? How do you have influence with the larger development/ advancement arena? How do you use that to advance your career? How do you overcome being pigeon-holed in too small a job for your capabilities?

Lisa Honan has been in fundraising for nearly 20 years. Her initial years were spent developing and building a team in donor relations and stewardship, and then she worked for six years in a frontline position as the Assistant Dean for Advancement for the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Back in the University's central development office since 2014, she is responsible for overseeing prospect management, research and data analytics, and donor relations.

Lisa served on the board of ADRP in 2004-5, and as treasurer for the organization from 2007 through 2012. She has presented about donor relations, fundraising, and advancement services at numerous conferences and workshops for ADRP and other organizations, chaired the 2007 CASE Conference for Donor Relations, and co-chaired the ADRP International Conference in 2004.

Jaime Porter has worked in the fundraising field for more than 25 years. While her primary expertise is in advancement services and donor relations, she has also served as a frontline fundraiser and chief development officer, giving her a unique perspective into what it takes to have a top-notch development operation.

Jaime is Vice President, Advancement Operations and Campaign Director at Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health in Philadelphia where she oversees all advancement operations and planning for the institution's first-ever comprehensive campaign. Jaime has also held leadership roles at Princeton, Georgetown Law, NPR, Carnegie Mellon University, and Colby College.

Jaime is a founder of ADRP, served on the board of the Association of Advancement Services Professionals, and is a frequent presenter at national and regional conferences.
